Ostomy Appliance An ostomy appliance is an artificial pouching system for the collection of waste, usually custom made with the patient’s requirements in mind. This bag or pouching system is prescribed to individuals who have undergone an ostomy. Irrespective of the surgery or the ostomy, be it a Colostomy, Ileostomy or an Urostomy, the patient must wear an ostomy appliance. The bag or pouch is fitted snugly onto the stoma which is the opening that is surgically created on an individual’s abdomen, and is done in such a manner that the patient experiences no pain. The bag can then then be covered with the clever clothing hacks, making it unnoticeable . An ileostomy is an ostomy where a hole is surgically created on the abdominal wall, where the lowest part of the small intestine or the ileum is then brought in through the surgically created hole to form a stoma.
